THE RULES

1. All aircraft are of the 14-18 period (Must have left the ground during this period).

2. All "ACES" with a score of 5.0 or higher must obey the 3.0 hour handicap. All others with a score of ZERO to 4.99 may start immediately, if not sooner!

3. To be eligible for correct ID an answer must include at least one characteristic of the aircraft that helped in its identification.

4. And whom ever wins this challenge will have to provide a new one! If this can not be done for any reason, please PM Breguet and he will take over as host!

5. If an ace gives the correct answer too early, the challenge is over, he gets no point but has to post the next challenge. In lieu of the fact that the "novices" have in effect been "cheated" of their "exclusive" time that next post should be a relatively easy one. Anyone repeating the correct answer at the right time gets neither a point nor the right to post the next challenge.

6. The final arbitrator of all things to do with the "rules" is Breguet.

It seems to be a Rumpler C I :
elegant cut out of the upper wing ,semi circular radiator ,undercarriage struts .

Hello Aquilius,

The Rumpler C.I also referred as the Rumpler 5A 2, except for the power plant, identical to the C.Ia looks like our mystery machine.
The center section cut-out on the upper and lower wings, wing mounted radiator, fuselage, and tail section all look like a good match.

Aquilius,

it's a Rumpler C.I. Rounded radiator and wing cut out, gravity tank integral with top wing and fuselage lacing lines are all very characteristic. And I was thinking about using this photo myself!

Your posts came in like havy artillerie fire on that bird!

Catfish is right, the aircraft "crashed" into an antiaircraft-gun bullet.
I think we haven't had a similar event yet.

The caption says Lt. Winsloe was able to land safely behind german lines after this incident on Nov. 2nd 1916.

The piont goes to Richard, who was first with his ID.
And he may look for a new task for us.

Hello Aquilius,

Thanks for a good challenge.

Congratulations to Richard B on a clean Kill and Flamingo on a very close Third!

Really bizarre, I posted my thread as fast as I could at the proper moment.
It showed up below Bruno's earlier post. I went to the forum page and thought that it was odd that no one else had posted, other than me, as there were several of us circling for the kill! I came back to this thread to see Richard B's post above.... where mine had just been. I went back to the forum page and saw that Flamingo had posted last to this thread, so I came back the third time.
I had gone from 1st to second and all three of us had posted within the same minute or less!

Good Job!

Also Thanks to Catfish for the details.

I was just a little concerned as I still have not seen my wing man Bruno.
During all of the excitement I would not like to shoot down one of my wing men.
