Breguet's crash files challenge # 349

BONJOUR à tous .

And now the #349 .

I hope the picture is big enough to see all the subtil details of the bird .
To get the full mark you DON'T have to give neither the sub-type nor the first name of the pilot's husband .

Good luck
Richard

THE RULES

1. All aircraft are of the 14-18 period (Must have left the ground during this period).

2. All "ACES" with a score of 5.0 or higher must obey the 3.0 hour handicap. All others with a score of ZERO to 4.99 may start immediately, if not sooner!
Offenders will be dealt with severely!

3. To be eligible for correct ID an answer must include at least one characteristic of the aircraft that helped in its identification.

4. And whom ever wins this challenge will have to provide a new one! If this can not be done for any reason, please PM Breguet and he will take over as host!

5. If an ace gives the correct answer too early, the challenge is over, he gets no point but has to post the next challenge. In lieu of the fact that the "novices" have in effect been "cheated" of their "exclusive" time that next post should be a relatively easy one. Anyone repeating the correct answer at the right time gets neither a point nor the right to post the next challenge.

6. The final arbitrator of all things to do with the "rules" is Breguet

It's a Gotha G.V.
Tailplane shape, two struts, mottle camouflage and of course photo #85 in the Gotha Special!

Hello Richard,

How is it going?
It looks like Gotha G.III, the horizontal stabilizer, rudder, and really
biggass wings!
Then again, today is the fourth and I am probably a day short!

HAPPY TRAILS, FOKKERJ

P.S. I would have been here sooner with Flamingo, but I was out on the internet answering a question from February 2007.
The person wanted to know where the Gotha's propellers were and what were the things on the sides between the wings.
I was killing time for this 3.0 hour deadline!

Here was my answer;

"Hi Nickki Dodge,

There were no propellers. It was rocket powered!

Just kidding. There are two engines, one on either side of the fuselage between the wings. Both are facing rearward, this arrangement is called a "Pusher" versus a Tractor" where the propellers are facing forward.

Cheers, JBYRD"

Hello Joachim,

I guess that a Gotha G.IV is out of the running. It sounds like you have found the positive I.D. of this one.

Congratulations! Can I borrow all of your German Giants Stuff?
I will return it very soon.

HAPPY TRAILS, FOKKERJ

Hello Flamingo and Fokker J

The main external difference between a G III and a G V WRECK is the motor gondels mounted on struts for a G V , deep and on the lower wing for the G III .

So far I can see (but I can't see much ) , it's a G V gondel ;

More ,my source ( Harry Woodman:Les bombardiers Gotha in le fanatique de l'aviation No 91 juni 1977 ) ID it as "a G V shot down at Margate on the 22 december 1917 "

Sorry FokkerJ ,but Famingo has the point , and the honour to post the # 350
