I read through the 'windy' story of Seddin, very interesting and certainly little known. I clipped a small text, as the focus of the article is mainly on LTA.

Quote:
Although a short mention, there was a special hall built for aircraft. Later on it is told that in 1919 / 1920 an airlift was done from Seddin to the rest of Germany by old German biplanes which were 'left alone by the Armistice Commission'. So not a major airfield, but certainly an airfield.

In this map of German dirigible bases Seddin is shown as quite near to the coast.

Sure we have a hard time finding Seddin on the map, after reading this

Quote:
Luftschiffhafen Seddin, named after a tiny place in Landkreis Stolp in Pomerania, was a base for Schütte-Lanz airships during World War I. The large hangar survived until 1989 when it burned down.
This is a map of Landkreis Stolp circa 1905 (all German language names of places).

Cheers

Kees

I received some new information about Seddin from my Polish friend Maciej, this is his text and two maps.

Quote:
Thanks Varese 2002 I got the information on this theme.
To my mind the correct name of Seddin is Jezierzyce Słupskie.

Quote about Seddin:

In Słupsk /Stolp/ existed two airfields. First are mentioned Jezierzyce Słupskie /Seddin/ which was found in the Northern borough. Second are called Stolp -West established in 1925 first especially for the civilian air- communication then take by Luftwaffe.

By the way. Today near by Seddin in Poland has to come into being famous US "National missile defense, (NMD)” .

Cheers
Maciek
Stolp-West

As (one of the) dirigible hangars survived miraculously till 1989, when it burnt down, there is a high chance that somewhere in Polish (picture) atchives are pictures of this giant structure.

Cheers

Hello Kees,

One more piece of the puzzle.

Jezierzyce Słupskie formerly Jeseritz is not exactly the same place as Seddin although very close. I think this is it. Precise location of Jeseritz is 54° 30' N and 17° 07' E. Here is a map. Luftschiffhallen had to be somewhere in the area.

Here is a quite good picture of two Luftschiffhallen in Seddin, one of which was dismantled.

Greetings

Marek
