Drachenstationen - Kite (not Kite-Balloons, only Kites !)

The German imperial navy maintained the in the Baltic its own weather organization, the „Marine-Luftfahr-Wetterdienst“ (M.L.W.). The sea-weather-stations (name in German "Seewetterwarte“) examined the higher layers of the atmosphere (2000 - 5000 meters) among other things on winds and temperatures. The stations were equipped with pilot-balloons and Kites (not Kite-Balloons, only Kites ! See
). These stations were called in German „Drachenstation“ / „Marine-Drachen-Station“, later „Seedrachenwarte“.

The Kite stations of the German navy 1914 - 1918

1. Nordsee - Station in Bredene (Flandern) later Sint Michiels (Bruges)
2. Jütland - Station in Hadersleben
3. Rügen - Station in Bug / Wiek Rügen
4. Samland - Station in Seerappen / Königsberg
5. Kurland - Station in Roloff / Libau
6. Baltikum - Station in. Deguhnen (Tukums), Riga, Arensburg (Ösel)

In Borkum was an other additional Kite station …

The German army had a similar Organistion, itself over the entire area from the North Sea to on the black sea, until to the Mediterranean extended. The kites stations were called in German „Felddrachenwarte“. There were stations in the area of the allied countries to Austria, Hungary, Bulgaria and Turkey.

Felddrachenwarte 51 - Brussels-Etterbeek
Felddrachenwarte 52 - Ruda near Lodz
Felddrachenwarte 53 - Temesvar-Szentandras / Hungary
Felddrachenwarte 54 - Saarwaldhof (Saarburg Lothringen)
Felddrachenwarte 55 - Hadersleben (Jutland, today Danmark
Felddrachenwarte 56 - Chateau Roosendaale (Flandern)
Felddrachenwarte 57 - Yamboli / Bulgaria)
Felddrachenwarte 58 - Diepoltshofen near Haibach / Munich
Felddrachenwarte 59b - (Bavarian) in1918 Armeegruppe B (Gaede)
Felddrachenwarte 60 - today unknown
Felddrachenwarte 61 - Galizien (Lemberg, Czernowitz or Neu-Sandez ?)
Felddrachenwarte 62 - Oktober 1918 Verdun (A.O.K. 5)
Felddrachenwarte xx - Palästina / Sinai / Negev (El Arish to Afula, Djenin)

An other additional Kite station … „K.u.K. Felddrachenstation“ in „Klobenstein am Ritten“ (South Tyrol near Bolzano, today Italy) … see also

It would make me happy ... ... if someone could give me particularly with the stations of the army further information (numbers, locations and so on).

Harry - as always, I am in awe of the information you find and share. This is remarkable footage. I was watching it early this morning before getting ready to head into the office and my 8 year old came back - trying to figure out the music - and watched it with me. We both were really impressed with the size of the kites.

Thank you for sharing. Wish I had information to share back with you!
