Previous Breguet's Crash Files

The Rules
1. All aircraft are of the 14-18 period (Must have left the ground during this period).
2. The score board, link and rules must be copied to the beginning of each thread, so that we know where we are. The score board and the correct answer to the challenge must also be placed at end of each thread.
3. All "ACES" with a score of 5.0 or higher must obey the 3.0 hour handicap. All others with a score of ZERO to 4.99 may start immediately, if not sooner! Offenders will be dealt with severely!
4. To be eligible for correct ID an answer must include at least one characteristic of the aircraft that helped in its identification.
5. And whom ever wins this challenge will have to provide a new one! If this can not be done for any reason, please PM Breguet and he will take over as host!
6. If an ace gives the correct answer too early, the challenge is over, he gets no point but has to post the next challenge. In lieu of the fact that the "novices" have in effect been "cheated" of their "exclusive" time that next post should be a relatively easy one. Anyone repeating the correct answer at the right time gets neither a point nor the right to post the next challenge.
7. The final arbitrator of all things to do with the "rules" is Breguet.

I hope that this brings some pleasant diversion to your Sunday.
For your concideration I submit the following:

For one full point I would like the correct ID of this flying machine's remains.

GOOD HUNTING, FOKKERJ

thomas morse

I'll go with a Thomas Morse scout (s-4c)...
...with the further guess that this is a training accident in the US.

Congratulations goes to Crankcase for correctly making the ID of this wreck at CARLSTROM's FIELD, somewhere in the USA, I presume. From the caption, the pilot did not survive this accident.

Watch out RUFE!

I AM SPEECHLESS...gulp!

Since I still don't have a facility for selecting and posting the next round, CAN I DO A FIENDISH THING AND PASS THE HONOR BACK TO "FOKKER J"?

My thinking is this: Fokker J at 51.50 points has a commanding lead. It must be tough at the top and I am sure he must be suffering from exhaustion, frayed nerves and general combat fatigue. Therefore I think the rest of you will agree with me that he deserves a well-earned rest from the "front" and should take a short leave during the next round (which, incidentally, will give the others a chance to reduce his lead!)

Pls confirm if you agree and let us proceed to the next sortie! Hals und Beinbruch!
marc
p.s. To avoid any conflict of interest, I will also sit out the next round.

One more thing...

...for the record.
How did i come by my ID on the thomas morse?

I focused on the tailplane unit and by a process of elimination excluded other biplanes which had tail fin contours which were close, but not close enough, e.g., where the fin meets the fuselage (in other types, the vertical stabilizer line curls under before touching the fuselage).

similar approach with the horizontal stabilizer and elevator controls.

there wasn't much left of the plane, but at least one could check the configuration of struts, single bay, parallel to each other and verify that they did not contradict a t.morse.

finally, the nonchalant stance of the personnel in the background looked more "yank" than "other allied" and they did not seem to be in a battle mode. so it looked US domestic...

hope this provides enough substantiation?

Greetings Marc,

Thanks for explaining your ID process, I kind of forgot about that!

Definitely some "YANK" looking types in the back ground.

I would be honored to fill in for you, but I should still get to play!

I will host the BCFC Nr.446 later as I have a busy day ahead and must search for an appropriate Crash foto to challenge all (I hope!).
