Avro 504K Airfoil section

Hi Guys,

I hope you can help me. I am about to embark on a Avro 504K build to 1/3 scale. I have so far, been unable to determine the correct airfoil section.

Any info gratefully recieved!

Thanks in advance

Matt

talk to "Avro Man" John Gaertner. He is a member of The Aerodrome... but you can probably find him easier at his web page... Blue Swallow Aircraft

he is building a couple authentic Avro 504s...

Thanks Rob, I sent john an email, fingers crossed!

I have spent all evening searching the web, and every spec I find draws a blank at the airfoil type, it seems very illusive!

Cheers
Mat

Have you seen the RC Scale Aircraft magazine's 1/4 scale plan? It would probably offer some insights. It was apparently drawn from measurements taken from the full-sized aircraft.

PM if you want to track down the issue/plan number.

There is an old drawing from the Modelist Constructor Magazine (1985) with a USSR version (У-1) of the Avro 504 K.

Try This

If you can get ahold of a copy of National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA) Report #93.

Listed therein is a test section for the AVRO airfoil (test #114).

The Russian model drawing look close, but I believe the leading edge is much sharper than they are showing.

The test airfoil lists upper and lower curvatures by chord percent so you could redraw it as you wish.

Respectfully Submitted,

KC
