Who can identify this Albatros-Staffel ?

Hi, all WW1 specialists!

First let me thank you again for your help on the Fokker E.V / DVIII question.
Now I have found a photograph of an Albatros-Staffel in the website of EADS - European Aeronautic Defense and Space Company, that I have questions for,
which I hope one of you can answer.

1. which Jasta is this?
2. when was that picture taken?
3. is the type really DIII, or DV?
4. do you know the pilots of the craft, and
5. which sign/marking did belong to whom?
(Perhaps we number them from front to back as 1, 2, 3 etc.)

I'm awaiting your answers with thrilling expectation. Thank you in advance!
Olham

Jasta 50 picture

Hello Olham,

it´s a line up of Albatros D III (OAW) of Jasta 50 at Autremencourt in early (January-March) 1918.

They had chevron-style stripes on their tailplanes as a jasta identification. The colours are unfortunately unknown. It is suggested that it is sky blue and red or black (or red) and white.

I knew I'd seen this picture before.

What Jasta do these Fokker VII belong to?

Rainer is correct, they're Albatros D.III (OAW). The flattened fuselage sides + v-struts tells you its a D.III (as opposed to a D.V). The rounded trailing edge of the rudder, which was used in all D.V's, was introduced by OAW in their version of the D.III.

Found it when searching here

Late in the night, I tried it an typed "Jasta 50" into the search box, and found other post about this pic. Next time I will try that first.
I also found a post by Dan_San_Abbott about the tailplane colours, which he examined using a greyscale. Great stuff here!

If anyone can come up with more names related to the shown craft, please do so.
Thank you all. Olham

Albatros D III (OAW)

Hello Olham and Alien,

you can also see it on the serial number (if you have).

The serial numbers for Albatros D III (OAW) are the follows:

D.1650-1849/17
D.2362-2661/17
D.3056-3255/17
D.5022-5161/17

Sorry Olham, I unfortunately don´t know the names of the pilots from this aircrafts.

Pilots of Jasta 50

Hello Olham,

according to Dan-San Abbotts Unit and Personal Markings-Catalog 2009 (which I have got today) there are the machines of the following pilots. I think on the picture from ahead to behind (the aircraft-numbers of the fourth aircraft backwards I can´t read on the picture):

No. 2362/17 - Uffz. Fritz Liese
No. 2377/17 - VzFw. Wittenfeld
No. 2374/17 - unknown
No. 2368/17 - Buddenberg
No. 2348/17 - Glöcklen

Regards

Rainer
