"Photo" sign on French aircraft

Hello everyone!
I have noticed that the word "photo" appears often on the fuselage of several french types, with small letters, close to the cockpit. What is the meaning - and the point of writing this there? Is that a permanent sign or not? Is that a french (alone) application or did other allies do it as well? Any information would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Bonjour

The legend "Photo" was applied only to aircrafts that were equipped to do a possible photographic mission, although it was not their primary mission
Commonly the legend (B&W about 10 cm high) was on the left side below the cockpit

Hi,

This practice was used with the Belgian Aviation Militaire too, very often on Spad XI's.

Best regards,

Daniel
