Bonsoir

I have seen several photos with Salvador Hedilla in front of a plane looking closely to that of the challenge
May be the pilot in the plane is Hedilla ?
Cordialement
Bruno

To finish this Challenge ... In the pilot seat is Louis Gibert (Brevet No. 92 - June 1910). The machine is pictured on 21-22 June 1914 in Poitiers being a Vendôme single seat monoplan. Given the bewildering variety of types, difficult to identify (no factory designation), this is the 1914 monoplane featuring a V-leg undercarriage then flown by Gibert. This machine is not identified as the Vendôme 2-seater Type Militaire of 1914.

This machine had nothing to do with the events described by RBailey in Spanish. Further I have found no information about the (licence) building of Vendôme monoplanes in Spain.

To add extra confusion to the Vendôme monoplanes, the 1912 monoplane with the big (bicycle) wheel undercarriage is identified as the 1912 Vendôme Type Militaire (!) by Opdycke.

To confuse the Vendôme identification further the NASM comes with another classification (Vendôme II, III, IV, V, VI etc. also 1914 Type Militaire), which is again different from the descriptions / identification given by Opdycke.

I will allot the point to Rbailey for the identification of the Vendôme Monoplan 1914 (not a Type Militaire), considering the 'diversity' of identification.

'Correct' identification
Vendôme monoplan 1914 flown by Louis Gibert.

There are references to Pujol Comabella licence-built Vendomes on a couple of Spanish sites, and a picture somewhere of 3 or 4 machines looking very much like Vendomes parked in front of their hangar, but they are too small to be sure. Hedilla worked for Pujol, and supposedly based his monocoque on the Vendome. Here is a picture of a Spanish Vendome - not stated whether that means Spanish built or not.
