Escadrille 211 insignia - help wanted

I would like some help figuring out the details of the insignia on this aircraft (see attachment).

The insignia belongs to Escadrille 211.

The insignia for this squadron is usually shown as just the cannons and the flame within the circle but I would suggest that it more closely follows the design of the French artillery button I have imposed over the image.

I was hoping to track down a clearer photo of this Nieuport so I can investigate the insignia more closely.

I would also be interested if anybody has studied this insignia and can help with the colours. I gather the outer ring is red – but obviously it must be much darker or richer than the red of the national markings.

Juanita Franzi

PS: French Air Force structure is not my strong point please excuse me if I have not used the correct terms.

From "Les escadrilles de l'aeronautique militaire francais" book, if you do not already have that source.

Hope you can read French, or at least get the idea from some of the words.

Thank you.
I have found that reference. It is the photo on that page that I would like to see in higher resolution.

Best regards
Juanita
