I would like some help figuring out the details of the insignia on this aircraft (see attachment).
The insignia belongs to Escadrille 211.
The insignia for this squadron is usually shown as just the cannons and the flame within the circle but I would suggest that it more closely follows the design of the French artillery button I have imposed over the image.
I was hoping to track down a clearer photo of this Nieuport so I can investigate the insignia more closely.
I would also be interested if anybody has studied this insignia and can help with the colours. I gather the outer ring is red – but obviously it must be much darker or richer than the red of the national markings.
