Previous Breguet's Crash Files
The Rules
- All aircraft are of the 14-18 period (Must have left the ground during this period).
- The score board, link and rules must be copied to the beginning of each thread, so that we know where we are. The score board and the correct answer to the challenge must also be placed at end of each thread.
- All "ACES" with a score of 5.0 or higher must obey the 3.0 hour handicap. All others with a score of ZERO to 4.99 may start immediately, if not sooner! Offenders will be dealt with severely!
- To be eligible for correct ID an answer must include at least one characteristic of the aircraft that helped in its identification.
- And whom ever wins this challenge will have to provide a new one! If this can not be done for any reason, please PM Breguet and he will take over as host!
- If an ace gives the correct answer too early, the challenge is over, he gets no point but has to post the next challenge. In lieu of the fact that the "novices" have in effect been "cheated" of their "exclusive" time that next post should be a relatively easy one. Anyone repeating the correct answer at the right time gets neither a point nor the right to post the next challenge.
- The final arbitrator of all things to do with the "rules" is Breguet.
GOOD LUCK!!!
Marek

Voisin L, LA or 3 because of pusher configuration and Salmson engine with box radiators and typical tailplane.

Greetings Marek,
My limited resources indicate that by the triangular rudder tip top, wing and elevator shape, and pusher engine configuration that this might be a Voisin 8.
HAPPY TRAILS, FOKKERJ
The "8" had an increased rudder area and the "10' had even more rudder area.

Hello Joachim,
My guess says a 220 h.p. Peugeot 8a inline.
This looks more like a rotary cylindered engine to me!
HAPPY TRAILS, FOKKERJ
P.S. I do see the "Box Radiators".

Hi Jay
The Salmson was (the only?) water-cooled radial engine. Later Voisins had Vee-type inline engines.

Just in case you are wrong.... I will change to the Voisin 5B.2 (Type LA.S) for the rounded wing tips and radial engine.
HAPPY TRAILS, FOKKERJ
P.S. Seeing the nacelle would help!

Hello,
Although Joachim’s answer is a bit imprecise, I think I can concede it as correct. This is Voisin 3 LA – according to my best knowledge based on French Aircraft of the First WW by Davilla and Soltan this is proper designation. The plane was in Russian service and was downed around fortress of Przemysl, Galicia.
Voisin L was an earlier type and – as opposed to LA/LAS - had all interplane struts parallel – this difference is barely visible in the photo.
My CONGRATULATIONS, Flamingo.
Jay,
The engine is not in-line for sure. Sorry.

Hi!
I do not have intention to contest the outcome of the challenge. just want a clarification.
In my opinion the aeroplane in question was not LA but LAS. "S" was used to designate raised thrust line (the engine moved few inches up in order to provide propeller clearance).
Regards,
Yavor
