Escadrille N48 and the Nieuport 17

When did N48 receive it's first Nieuport 17? I know they had all but totally converted to the SPAD VII by April 1917.

Cool

Can't tell you that. What I can tell you is N.48 means they flew mostly Neiuports of some kind. When converted to spads it would become spa.48.
On 15/4/17 Lt de Larmanat claimed an aircraft shot down. All 9 french casualties on that day were from 6 different squadrons all with N designations. of these casualties 2 were Neiuport 23's and 5 were spad?V11's. N48 is mentioned about 3 times in combat reports previous to 15/4/17.

Bonsoir

From the book of the SHAA (SHD),the escadrille had the Nieuport XVII
Serial numbers 1780,2008 and 1867 on October 1916 - It seems probable that they were the first nieuport because this is the time
when the escadrille moved to the 2nd Armée sector (August 1916) and when Captain George
Matton took the head of N48 (October 8, 1916)

Merci encore, Bruno

I have been looking at N48 because I think that Turenne possibly scored his first victory while flying a Nieuport 17 rather than his more well-known and very flamboyant Nieuport 11. Your reply seenms to confirm this.

By the way do you know who his parents were? I have a source that links a Turenne with Marcel Proust and his photograph looks very like Armand.

salut

Keith

Bonsoir Keith

All In can say is that is father was Guillaume-Auguste-Alyre-George de TURENNE d'AUBEPEYRE (legion d'honneur) and his mother (who died when only 28 years old) Marie Thérèse Magdeleine BAUMEVIEILLE
I dont know if there is a connection with marcel Proust
