Looking at this beauty of picture, it appears that a rotary engine is fitted, which is rare for a Taube-like machine. The wing tips are really "Über-Taube" like, rather extreme. The rudder is somewhat un-Taube like, more an all flying tail like fitted on some Blériot types.

When I consult lists of the Schweizerische Fliegertruppe there is no machine mentioned which comes close to this one. I could not imagine that the machine was flying in a civil capacity in Switserland till 1915 ?

Cheers

Kees

Probably no connection to this aircraft. Richard Dehan ( pseudonym for Clothilde Graves) wrote a short story about taubes in 1912. Of course, it might be the author's personal aircraft.

Okay, I will make a few more words about this aircraft.

Although the "Swiss Federal Institute of Technology" states the designer is unknown - he isn't.

And he has been swiss!
Even the financier is known by name, but he wasn't called Dehan.

Then the aircraft was flown in Switzerland and yes, private, not with the army.

It was built in 1913 but not in Switzerland.

Cheers

Stil no idea yet?

The designer we were looking for was one of the medics from Luzern who tried his luck with aviation. But he was no dentist like Dr. Hurlburt or Dr. Riedel and apparently he had more success.

His aircraft was built in a then established aircraft company.

Maybe a search more in the origins of that design concept is helpful.

Cheers

I looked through the book 'Flugpioniere in und über Luzern : wagemutige Aviatiker, Wiege der Schweizer Flugtouristik, Stätte weltweiter Fluggeschichte' by Alfred Waldis and Otto Britschgi.

Without result

The only relevant passage somewhat relating to this machine was:

Quote:
bei Ausbruch des Ersten Weltkrieges Einstellung des Flugbetriebes
As I already mentioned earlier it is special that 'civil' flying of this machine was still done in 1915.

Have a fine day

Kees

Kees, I also wondered why A. Waldis & O. Britschgi did not mention this machine and it's designer.

But the only two chapters about flyers from Luzern were named:

• Erfolglose Luzerner Flugpioniere (unsuccesful aviation pioneers)

• Die ersten Luzerner mit Flugbrevets (first Lucerne's with pilot brevets)

Both was not the case with our man.
They obviously missed a chapter!

Or does someone know where I can find the list of breveted swiss pilots?

But I'm not sure if the monoplane was flown in the area of Lucerne. The picture is held by the technical school of Zürich and it might have been in Thun too. There it probably did not fly in 1915.

But you are right, the flying in 1915 is somewhat questionable.
To the moment I can't say where I have that note from. Just it tells after many successful flights and various tests with that machine it has been sold in 1914 - to Dehan??? - and was flown later on.

Cheers

As our man is obviously in the class of succesfull flyers without a swiss pilot brevet there is not much use in hunting after the list of breveted swiss pilots I think ?

Cheers

I haven't found a mention that he got a brevet. But I don't know the list.

Maybe you can check for Dr. ...., - um, this probably should not go this way...

Cheers

Hello,

I have just found the picture in ETH-Zürich photo archive – here.
Judging by the title and description, Swiss sources are useless in this case.

Regards

Marek
