Albatros D.Va

Wow! That is a very nice looking Albatros D.Va! Presumably it will be at the next air show - extra temptation to try to make it over there for the next air show. No doubt TVAL has done an outstanding job on the Albatros, as with all of their other fantastic projects.

Cheers,

David.

Not only that but it came out in answer to the SE5a.

80 h.p., yup! Should be 180 h.p. Well, at least the newspaper folks got the photo right! Josef Mai is surely pleased... as he looks down.

Wunderbar!

I couldn't tell it apart from the real thing, then when I could take my eyes from the picture and I read the text it is said it's an exact copy using digital measurements.

I hope they don't dive the thing too steeply!

Well, there's no need for serious dogfighting now. The pilot can just fly safely while showing off the Albatros to fans on the ground. But you're right...not to get too carried away...

Albatros

They used the Albatros D.Va in the AWM, Canberra, as their guide. Peter J details the process in the latest Windsock in the article on Wignut models.

Unfortunately the show was blown out by huge winds. The previous weekend was perfect, but this time... too windly to risk the aircraft. Their new B.E.2c reproduction would have flown on a special permit, but, alas it was not to be.

Are you saying they now have a 2c as well as the 2f ? Pinch me I think I'm dreaming.

Be

There are two (2) B.E.2c reproductions. One was to fly at Masterton and one , partially uncovered, was on display at the Wellington airport for their 50 year anniversary celebrations.

At Masterton were the following: Avro 504K, Bristol Fighter (think it is the reproductcion - I know it was bloody heavy pushing it up the aerodrome), three S.E.5a fighters, the Albatros D.Va, B.E.2c, B.E.2F, F.E.2b, Sopwith Camel, three Fokker Dr.I triplanes, a Sopwith Triplane with radial engine, - this one I really wanted to see fly - Fokker D.VII and Pfalz D.III ex-Blue Max aircraft. In the hangars not flyable were another Dr.I and a Halberstadt D type. The two other F.E.2b biplanes and two Fokker D.VIII monoplanes were in parts.

I noticed before the difference in fabric on clear doped machines. The new B.E.2c biplanes are WHITE - not crream or yellow. The fabric will turn yellowish in time, but not as yellow as we use to paint our models. Given the short life expectancy of these machines, I think that white is the colour they should appear in in Profiles, paintings, etc.

WWI Aero heaven!!
