Early rib tape color?

This photo of a 1913 Curtiss G seems to show that the wing rib tapes are a darker color. Question is, what color? Anybody hazard a guess?

They could be wood strips nailed down Buzz? It was done---I know on Bleriots---and Moranes, (i believe) and I'm sure plenty of others...

Good call, but the leading and trailing edges also have the darker color...
