Welcome to Breguet's Crash File Challenge #505.

Good crash pics are getting harder and harder to find !

This one should not be too hard, especially for those experienced in tree identification.

The Rules :

1. All aircraft are of the 14-18 period (Must have left the ground during this period).
2. The score board, link and rules must be copied to the beginning of each thread, so that we know where we are. The score board and the correct answer to the challenge must also be placed at end of each thread.
3. All "ACES" with a score of 5.0 or higher must obey the 3.0 hour handicap. All others with a score of ZERO to 4.99 may start immediately, if not sooner! Offenders will be dealt with severely!
4. To be eligible for correct ID an answer must include at least one characteristic of the aircraft that helped in its identification.
5. And whom ever wins this challenge will have to provide a new one! If this can not be done for any reason, please PM Breguet and he will take over as host!
6. If an ace gives the correct answer too early, the challenge is over, he gets no point but has to post the next challenge. In lieu of the fact that the "novices" have in effect been "cheated" of their "exclusive" time that next post should be a relatively easy one. Anyone repeating the correct answer at the right time gets neither a point nor the right to post the next challenge.
7. The final arbitrator of all things to do with the "rules" is Breguet.

Question

Greetings AROTH and Good Morning,

I hope that you had a nice nap!

The cowling looks like a Sopwith Dunny, but the strut arrangement, wing root covers, shredded plywood fuselage, and tailskid remind me of an upside-down Albatros D.II Oeffag Series 53.

HAPPY TRAILS, FOKKERJ

P.S. STUPID CLOCK!.... Off two minutes!

That's alright, Richard is probably right anyway.

I agree, I think that there are more photographs of different Aircraft built than Crash Fotos....
Just check out the Breguet's Aircraft I.D. Challenge!

It just doesn't make sense!

The trees are either an Apple Orchard or
they are Cacti having a "Bad Hair Day"!

Welcome back - yawn - yes, I had a nice nap!

Congratulations to FOKKERJ for the correct answer -

Albatros D.II Oeffag Series 53.

This is 53.06, used as a trainer by Flik 50D, Dec.1917. Photo supposedly taken in Jan.1918, after Jakub Čech (shown here as a happy man because he survived) had a landing "malfunction".

Another picture of the same crash from a different angle.

The score after BCFC #505 - Oeffag Built Albatros D.II, series 53 -

I will go find out, but the tail skid fairing definetly looks like the Albatros D.II Oeffag and not the D.III Oeffag.

Alrighty then.... It looks like you have beat me to the punch here as I wrote this while you were busy taking care of business.

Thanks to AROTH for a challenging challenge and a great fotograf.

I am looking forward to the next BCFC #506.

I'll be back, FOKKERJ
