Hansa Brandenburg KDW

Hi, Not sure whether this should be posted here or on Models. My query regards the nose of this type, that is the version based on the D1 fighter. Compared to the D1 the KDW has a flatter nose section. I've only seen one plan / profile that seems to indicate a solid nose piece. However, on a model review the builder had scratched a very nice model but had incorporated a grill into the nose. Is this only applicable to a certain engine type or was it the norm? Incidentally, the radiator was in the upper wing and can anyone say what exhaust pattern was used on the Maybach engines and whether right or left. Regards, Steve

I am not quite certain what you want to know, but you are lucky as in Over the Front Vol. 24 Issue 3 (Autumn 2009) an article has appeared from Jack Herris about the Hansa-Brandenburg KDW and derivatives. Answers to your questions may be found there.

The same issue also contains an article by Ron Kintner - The Brandenburg KDW Operational history.

Typical that in the same issue in different articles the machine was named Hansa-Brandenburg KDW and Brandenburg KDW by different authors

Cheers

Kees
