Magneto Switches

Did a quick search and didn't find anything but I didn't dig too deep, so here it goes. This is just a curiosity, does anyone know if the magneto switches used in the Camel, Pup and various other aircraft were any different than the standard "dolly" light switches that seemed to be used at the time? Besides the AM marks that they may have had? One of those things I have always wondered.

Hi Karl,

I think the Air Ministry used standard switches, as used in houses at the time, although the voltages might have been different of course. If they were not the same as standard house switches they were very similar. When I was working on the restoration of the DH9 we used house switches as substitutes for the Air Ministry switches, and they are virtually identical, at least in appearance.

The correct Air Ministry aircraft switches have AM marked in black ink on the rear face, as you alluded to.

Regards,

David.

I currently voulenteer once and awhile down at Kingsburry and learn more and more every time I go. Again thank you for the warm welcome and David thanks for the answer.
