Hey All,

I know I'm drifting off topic here, but if 86-121 are outwardly identical, then 105 would still have the "EII" right side cheek piece. Since I wish to build an Aerodrome EIII as 105, this news muddies the water even more! Is the internal arrangement the same as "future" EIII's? Or no?

Hey Josef Scott,

SEPTEMBER???? I'm sure this is not your fault, but you had said in another post "... probably in July..." I have been checking the Windsock site way more than I care to admit to in public for this publication... and now September... I'm calling my therapist now...

Just quickly.....I guess the following

Top to bottom:

1> Looks too long to be an E.I. It could be "any" pilot to be honest.

2> Cant tell.

3> E.I

4> M.5 L

5> M.5K MG/A.III or E.I with a parabellum mg.

6> Achim's E.III

Lol...that was fun. Gotta jet now

Hi all,

Thanks, Tim, I appreciate your support! Yes, Jerry's covers are great, aren't they? His depiction of Wintgens & E 5/15 for the first volume knocks my socks off every time I look at it. Just wait until you see Ronny Bar's profiles!

Dan,
Yeah, sorry, September is the new date. And, yes, 105/15 would have had the outward appearance of an E.II. The second volume will have some specific info you may find very interesting regarding 105/15. The interior is basically the same as the standard E.III, but the fuel/oil tank is larger and there is no ammunition bin inside the fuselage.

Catfish,
Those photos are all quite well-known, but here is what I can tell you about them (following Tim's lead)
  1. Supposedly either Immelmann or Mulzer, pretty sure it's an E.III as the wings seem too close to the nose to be an E.I.
  2. This Eindecker has been identified several times as Buddecke's E.II 36/15 and I see no reason to disagree.
  3. Ernst von Althaus in a production E.I
  4. M5L prototype (same fuselage as the E.I)
  5. Peter Grosz identified M5K w/n 194 as E.I 4/15
  6. As Tim noted, Achim's E.III repro

Hi,

Coming back on the original photo's, there are few locations which look like this for the KEK's.

Cunel is one of them, and looking in my material, Avillers is only a very small possibility, Martincourt had a bit the same landscape as Cunel, as has Sivry. I think we can bring the possibilities back to these aerodromes.

Perhaps I will be able to say more about it after my visit to these aerodromes in autumn this year.

Would also be very interesting if we could be certain of the types of Fokker E planes on both photo's.

Best from Johan

Hallo Johan,

Fokker E.III and E.IV respectively. No doubt.

Good luck with your continuing research into the aerodromes. I'm very interested in what you turn up.

Hi Josef,

Thanks for that !

Saturday I'm starting with some aerodromes closer to home, Phalempin-Lille, La Brayelle, Roucourt, Bertincourt en Quéant.

In autumn I'm counting in a few days for a very large number of the KEK aerodromes in the Ardennes/Meuse region.

Some of the material will certainly be shared with the aerodrome.

Best from Johan

Hey Regulus,

In reading about Fokker 509 (EIII 210/15, the captured Fokker in the Royal Science Museum), it is clear that the pilot "aerodrome hopped" all the way to and past the front.

The presence of an EIV does not necessarily mean it was "on strength" there. It could be just passing through, in need of repair, or just plain lost (like Fokker 509).

Good luck!

Well Gentlemen, I shoould be in the region of Verdun within one month if all goes well, and most certainly I'll see if I can identify the location of both these photo's. Will keep everyone posted on the matter.
