I haven't, in all my searching, really seen any significant Frank Luke paintings/renderings.
I find it....I guess, sad.
There's a lot of topics not covered, actually, concerning WWI and I wonder why that is? Is it because of lack of information, such as reference photos?
Oh well.
Back to the question: Frank Luke. Anything decent out there I should be looking for?
ps...I hope Stephen sees this....

Patience, my friend, patience. I've got some FL ideas on the drawing board, just need to clear this backlog of work first.

To be honest, I haven't seen any Luke work either. I could be wrong, but I don't think that even Dietz has tackled him.

There are some few but they are from years back - most were commisioned as book covers.
I'm guessing Luke's "personality" is not as popular, nowadays.
I don't happen to agree with that, but that's what I think is what's gwine juan..
It's an excellent subject - always will be.

The cover of WS Datafile 32 for the SPAD 13 has a painting by Brian Knight featuring the ol' balloon buster in the lead role (btw, which is the correct form - SPAD 13 or SPAD XIII?)

As with all of the other great WW1 pilots, I think it is his personality that makes him so interesting.

What's confusing is that the rudders show XIII. OTOH, most German aircraft are usually referred to by their Roman numeral (CL IV, E I, D VII) instead of the Arabic equivalent (CL 4, E 1, D 7). Guess it depends on what side of the line you flew.

Janes list the Spads as for example "type 13" for what ever thats worth.
I think XIII looks better than 13......
Frank Luke was a mavrick for sure. Just look at him. Almost reminds of Ice Man from Top Gun
I think its his last flight that makes him stand out in my mind. I mean he could have just given up after landing, but he pulls out his gun and starts shooting. Patriot or just crazy Luke was a fearless pilot.
Inovative? Not sure, but he was Americas top ace before his death.
I will try to do some Luke renders this week. I kinda like 27th's eagle logo anyhow B)
