Original Aviation Art in need of good homes

Have you ever wanted to own an original piece of aviation art but couldn't find a way to make it fit your budget? Well, now you can. I have four color studies that are in need of good homes and deserve to be somewhere better than the dark, cold inside of my storage cabinet. All are framed in simple, black shadow-box type frames and are available at very reasonable prices. You can view the studies at the link below. If you see one that you are interested in you can simply email me and let me know.

Thumbs up

Russell,
Please explain to me the difference between a color study and a painting. These sure look like beautiful finished oil paintings to me!

Hi AAC. A color study is really just a step in the process of creating a larger finished painting. What it is, in essence, is sort of a small "dry run" for the larger piece. Doing a quick smaller version first helps me to work out all of the color issues and any value issues that I didn't see in the drawing stage. Working out the kinks on a smaller scale rather than having them pop up unexpectedly while I am working on the larger version the larger version saves me a lot of headache.

Occasionally a color study turns out nicely enough that it can stand on its own as a painting rather than just a step in a process. The ones posted in the link above are examples of that.

I have several of Russ' color studies and they are indeed small oil paintings of very high quality. I can highly recommend them. Peter Grosz has one of Russ' studies depicting the Guynemer/Udet engagement.
