Hi Russ,
I'm curious if you use any models and lights when working out a scene, or is this all done in your head? Basically, I guess I'm asking what process you use to get the aircraft right, and how to work out where the shadows go and how the colours would change? I've never tried an aircraft painting and I'm interested in how to approach one.
Thanks,

some things to remember, Miles:
1. colors in shadow are generally cooler and less saturated. colors in light are generally warmer and brighter
2. areas in shadow tend to pick up more refelections and ambient light. that allows you to bring in other colors besides those of the object you are painting.
Of course, there are many more "rules" than this, but these are probably the two best general rules.

I am considering changing the color scheme of my Pfalz to the one in your painting. She is an Aerodromerc kit at 40 or so inches with electric power.
