No, you're not seeing things I tend to keep my backgrounds quite subtle. Thanks very much for your kind words!

I'm glad you can't tell It's all digital - starts off in 3D, and then goes through a serious rework in photoshop, hence the more 'painterly' look which I strive for. All of the backgrounds are 'painted' digitally. The original is around 18x11".

Jerry- Maybe you should tackle Wintgens' last sortie when he was killed by Heurtaux in an early Spad VII. Legend has it Seppi Veltjens was in the 2 seater Wintgens was defending. Wintgens was flying an E.IV, even though he had access to a much superior Halberstadt D.II. It has been speculated he preferred the two guns of the E.IV and had probably never met a pilot/aircraft combination before which was clearly superior enough to kill him. He killed Victor Chapman in a theoretically superior N.16, so who knows.

You guys misunderstand me on the Eindeckers. They were purposeful, photogenic, and graceful looking, but they were not pretty like the N.11, sort of like an Me-109 (Bf-109 if early) compared to a Spitfire. Just like the Fokker Dr.I was pretty while the Fokker D.VII was not. Guess it is similar to taste in cars. One person's beauty is another's soapdish. Love the Porsche 356, cannot stand the Audi TT or late Lexus 430coupes.

The first time I heard the term 'painterly', it was a word I thought had been made up by my art teacher at the time, who I thought had been over-indulging in a few lunchtime drinks! Nevertheless, it's a useful phrase. Even though I use digital media for my work, I'm trying to push away into a more painted look. Technically speaking, I'm still using a mouse at the moment to 'paint' things, although I guess that acquiring a graphics tablet at some point may help things along!

Hmm, that's an interesting possibility! Mind you, the Halberstadt D.II is another favourite of mine...

Haha! We differ in that sense then, as I much prefer the looks of the Bf109, the D.VII and the Audi TT! Admittedly the first two are somewhat craggy in their looks compared to some others, but that's what interests me the most about the designs.

One of Navarre's Nieuports

Thank you JerryBoucher for posting this beautiful picture of Navarre's Nieuport. I like the way the planes contrast against the clouds as it shows up the colors on the Nieuport very well. Navarre is my favorite French ace and I hope to see more pctures like this. Great job!

Jerry- Thank God for taste differences or all of us would be driving the same car and living in the same box. Just keep painting them so they look as good as the N.11 and E.III.
