light

Martha,
The light in the corner of the hanger reminds me of my favorite artists' masterful use of illumination, John Stobart.

Scroll through the many thumbnails and enjoy his use of light. Coming along nicely.

i'm gearing up to work this week on detailing out the two main faces in this painting. the mechanic could use some fingers, too.

here they are close-up and enlarged a bit. the actual size of the faces on the painting are about the size of a quarter.

a couple weeks ago, i repainted the whole sky as i'm not happy with the colors. i'm still not. may rework the whole sky again before moving forward on detailing out the elements in the foreground. i used to love cerulean blue. now it makes me gag.

this photo shows the top right corner of the new sky above the hangar - as much as would fit on my scanner. there is still too much cerulean blue in the mix for my taste, and i'm not happy with my smoke-colored clouds. also in the sky mix of colors is cobalt, flake white, a spec of yellow ochre, but the cerulean still overpowers it. i do like the idea of showing the "alpen glow" on the bottom of the clouds, but for that i need to change the lower sky to a sunset sky with some warm peach or salmon tones toward the bottom. so that's my new plan.

oh, btw, i'll be adding a baby carriage next to the woman in the hangar.
