DH-2......wip of delay....lives on.

Again after some personal set backs, I have regained some inspiration to do some 3d. To anyone who was trying to contact me, my appologies, life just did not permit me to keep up with things. Non the less life goes on. No, I was not in jail

Anyhow, my previous threads are sooo old they keep getting locked, so below my DH-2 saga contiues....to be finished sometime in a future far far away!

Ok, here is a early wip shot. You all have probably seen this. Started with cubes and through exstrusion and then sub dividing my mesh I ended up with that start of the fuselage.

Oh, I work in Maya.......

Then, I got bored and decided to work on the lewis gun.

And then I did a small scene based on a photo I had seen recently.

Then here is a wire..

And a few weeks ago I picked up the project again. Finally, I want to do this damn plane

At last, I have done a lot of the tiny little tedious stuff....whew.....

Actually the more I model the quicker it becomes, yet I still have a hard time finishing anything.

I will do the cockpit for this one. I have some good reference for it, so what the heck.

And the wire of the progress so far.

And then.......its demise is already on the horizon....muhahahah!!!

Actually, I just started this 3 days ago. I want to see how long it takes to do a "semi" detailed model. By semi, I mean not as detailed or modeled as the DH-2. I think Jerry Bouchers approach to 3d might be more fun than doing all the little bits.

You can also see the new gear and wheels on the DH-2

Here is another view.

This is the quickest I have ever gotten a plane to this point. Realizing its not as accurate as I might want, it would do for a scene render.

I have decided to take this approach to my art now. Thats really the fun for me, the textures and the post work.

That said, I will still do a few aircraft, with a high level of detail....starting with a re do of my DR.I. I have made this my "life project" plane. I would like to re do this plane with the skills I have now, not to mention the far larger source of reference material I now have on the DR.I.

And if anyone is interested you can see some samples of my work of the show Dogfights

....here

All comments, crits, suggestions are a great help.
Thanks.

PS> Anyone have photos of the rear of the fuse, where the engine mounts on the DH-2? tia

This is all looking rather nice You're right about my approach - I only make enough detail to suggest things, especially with background aircraft. You can always draw on any details when you're working on the final composition.

That said, I like all of the details on the DH-2. It's one of those 'ugly but attractive' aircraft!

The renders of the guns look very dark to me - or is that just my monitor settings?
