thank you, GT for your reference photos and answers on the his collar badges and buttons. i'll get out my magnifying glass when i detail them out.
today i worked for an hour or so just on tightening up the engine some while referencing this small photo. i still have some nuts to add and cylinder fins, but it is farther along. i also straigtened out albert's hairline just a tad as i had it too sloped. the two pics below show yesterday's and today's stages. sorry about the poor quality and color on the top photo which was taken with my basic digital camera. the bottom photo was scanned directly with my canon scanner. what a difference - wow! didn't realize just how much better it does than my camera until now.

today, i worked on roughing back in some khahki blends in acrylics over top of the blue shades that i previously mistakenly painted Albert Ball's uniform. i think it may look more like the camoflage coloring of today's desert storm uniforms though, so i'll have to blend it a bit more when i overpaint the colors in oils.

nope. that's not it. now that i can compare the latest updated image i just scanned side-by-side and scaled down with the photo, it's easy to see that i have his right arm too short from the shoulder to the elbow and his chest could be a bit bigger, too. back to work on it. i'm not happy with how i've got his fingers on his left hand either.

This is the perfect background material to paint rotary engines on. It provides some deepness of the shape Very nice Martha.

more progress and almost done
since the stage shown in post #25, i have widened Albert's jaw as well as his his shoulders, lengthened his right arm from his shoulder to his elbow, and changed his right eyebrow a bit as well as his irises. gave him a slightly more determined look. also added more shading to his sleeves and the lower areas of his uniform. still need to make some color adjustments - especially in the sleeves, which are too brown right now.
