Thanks for the info Pat. I might get that book at some point it looks like it would be a great addition to my library. It's a bit pricey though.

Tim, nice Lewis guns. Is there something wrong with your website? I've tried to check it out but there seems to be an error.

Yeh those are nice Paul.
Patrick is right about the book it is a good source. I think I understand why the photos look the way they do...with the cleat.

It doesnt sit right on the spar, its up a bit and above th linen....and since the hardware is really barebones its hard to see. But what I think happens is the cleats just sits on the linen...sometimes touching it sometimes not.

ANd my site has been down for a week or so. I am moving to a new host and have not uploaded the site yet. I will soon.

And here is the model update:

More streaky green paint test...

The bottom one is a close up of the texture.....I kind of like this look so far. There is another thread about the paint in the camo section. Hopefully I can get a nice result. I am ready to do some maps.

The wings and hardware have all been mapped. Just need to start. To late now. I am tired.

Maybe more tomorrow.

Thanks all for the help.

Thanks all for the nice comments....its great to hear people enjoy my stuff

Paul,

I now have enough stuff to do the cleats to match the photos and drawings...atleast to the best of my ability. It all makes sense how it mounts with the pin and what not. I will re do mine.

BTW the book "Fokker DrI Aces of WWI" has in the front of the book, a nice 2 page spread of 389/17. I have seen this photo in various crops and sizes over the years but didnt realize the book had such a nice copy....and 389/17 is a great example of the DrI. It has a great view of the cleat and strut. I RRRREAALLLLY wish to see a big copy of that photo. Check it out, a lot cheaper than Imries or Leamans book.

And here is what will probably be my streaking technique. The colors will change some as I work up a new linen shader.

And up close....

Its kind of like the last one but the streaks are a little finer and random. Also the technique is much easier to reproduce.

SO, gonna re do the struts, work up some layered shaders for new linen and finish axle wing. All in good time

Thumbs up

Pictures of Fred Murrins DR.1 streaking for your reference.

I like the last pictures of your finish much better ! Maybe a little more coarser in contrast? ... maybe.

Always loved your artwork ...
