My Gallery
Hi Becco_UK
nice looking model.
I will be VERY interested to see how this "cloth engine" works.
have you done any preliminary test on simple objects to see how it deals with this kind of situation?
i just wonder if the guys that wrote the code were thinking in terms of fabric stretched on a frame - as opposed to hanging cloth (clothes) that would obviously get a lot of use in the movie industry.
in any case - it is VERY cool as it alloes you to model prototypicaly.

does the software also handle translucency?

perhaps a better subject would be an se5a or one of the sopwiths.
just because you tend to see a lot more wrinkling and sagging.
particularly around the lacing on the fuse sides.

welcome to the forum

Mark_Miller: Thank you. Cinema4Ds' cloth engine is very powerful and works very good for stretched cloth effects, which is how I will doing the fuselage. I like the potential that much I will be redoing some parts of my 'Rainmaker' Avro Lancaster model.

With the Fokker fuselage I will be making a close fitting cover over the framework and scale down the size using Cinemas cloth. Properties of the fabric are definable and with the frame work set as a collider object this has the effect of stretching the the digital fabric.

Time permitting, I will post some tests over the weekend.

Cinemas' render engine handles translucent materials. However for the past couple of years I have mainly been using Maxwell Render for rendering which also provides realistic translucency. Maxwell works in Cinema and other 3D programs via a plugin.

Mark_Miller: This screen grab is the axle fairing part which I used the cloth engine on. The pink points are fixed ones and with a minimal reduction in scale, to the unfixed ones, it gave the effect of a plywood covered frame (I hope!).

My Gallery
wow - nice feature.
opens up all kinds of possibilities.

although, i have to wonder how much sag you would get with plywood attached to curved formers.
still - the way you configured it gives a nice subtle effect.

almost makes me want to use some "current" software for a change.
I'm using a VERY old surface modeler.
and modeling organic stuff like this is virtualy impossible.
so I bump map it.

and I was wondering about the "remember me" in the thread title.
did you post here before?
memory isn't one of my strengths.
where can i see your other work.

Mark_Miller: Using cloth for the axle fairing was perhaps overkill but it was a simple part to try some ideas with.

The "remember me?" part of the post title relates to Dr1 213/17 flown by Ltn. Friedrich Kempf which is the colour scheme I hope to recreate when I get to the texturing stage: Fokker Dr1 213/17

tcrean7828: Thank you. Cinema4D (version 9.6) is the 3D software being used to model the DR1.

Becco- Mark is correct. No rib detail is visible on Fokker axle wings since they were covered by thin plywood.
