I was hoping to contact Mark Miller - he has posted some fantastic 3D rendered art work including a gorgeous bare-bones series of the Nieuport 17.

Does anyone know what reference he used for it?

Also, does anyone know where I can buy prints?

as for refs - my digital model was almost entirely based on the Rozendaal plans found here:
Nieuport 17
an excelent set of plans that should give you everything you need to know.

also some great photo refs online - most useful stuff for me was on Philippe's site here:
WWI Real Aircrafts
N23 is almost identical to the N17

as for prints - well, I've had intentions for about 10 years now.
the original renders are all high res - so they could be printed out at good size. I even bough a printer that generates some extremly nice prints.
but, at the end of the day... I never seem to find enough time and energy to make it all happen.
I think I have a phobia about the sales and marketing end of things

so, I'd like to say that I will have prints available soon.
but.. I've said that for a long time

Thanks for the feedback. I have the downloads and I am also trying to get hold of a larger scale copy of the Rosendaal drawings from WWI Aero. They also claim to have some Macchi drawings for the Italian license built version!

Can I be first in line for prints? I'd even be interested in commissioning prints to sell at the museum I volunteer at.

i also had the machi factory drawings and they are helpful.
but..I thought they were for an 11 (?)
in any case, I believe they helped clear up some issues i had with the landing gear.
but still...the rosendaal drawings are best.

what museum do you volunteer at?
I'm not so sure I have the time to do new work right now, but if you are interested in some of the existing work....

and, if you don't mind me asking,
what is the nature of your project?...a repro?

The WW1 Aero website does only list the N11 drawings, however a slightly cryptic note under the N17 section says they have Macchi 1700 drawings as well. The drawings are not 'complete' but they do have some very useful detail on such things as the undercarriage fitting where the axle and struts meet.

They have a good gift shop which does a steady trade in aviation posters, books, etc. The existing work is excellent - especially if it relativley simple to produce an image from your current files. I was thinking of an upper-rear 3/4 view of the bare frame or the 'ghosted' image. I personally would like something around A3(?) with some close up views of various parts, arranged around the main image - it would frame up very nicely. I thought both the N17 and the Albatros would make a nice pair.

I am looking at building a N17 from the sources I have, concentrating on making it a reasonable reproduction. The main difference would be engine (just not witin my budget) and a few modifications to add modern things such as fuel lines and probably aluminium fuel tank. Yet to source instruments but I can do that over a few years. The spars are interesting but I'm not sure of the value of the extensive work internally....
