Adding some grime gets underway (the extra step is also gone too!).

Becco,

Another easy correction needed here - your rendering's horizontal stab support strut should have its outer attachment point moved more outward to the stab's outer hinge bolt assembly. It appears you incorrectly have it mounted about midway from where it should be located:

gipsymoth236k: Thanks for pointing that error out. This time I just about noticed before you though! The part has already been modified.

As this gets closer to completion I'm no longer happy with my 'bent at the end' control cables. So, I'm mustering up some renewed enthusiasm to make new control horn cable linkages.

The 1st full render of my Fokker Dr.1 model. Colour scheme depicted is that of 213/17 flown by Ltn. Friedrich Kempf.

This 500,000+ polygon model was made with Cinema4D 9.6 and painted using BodyPaint. Maxwell Render 1.7 used for the materials and render.

WOW! Awesome! Best 3D model of the DrI in have seen.

More pictures please.

One comment: the mid wing cut out is to thick, I should be very thin. Sorry just soptted it in this enlarged view.

Excellent job.

womenfly2: Thank you.

I assumed the mid wing cutout was generally the same section as the wing profile and a replica Fokker Dr1 looked this way so that's how I shaped it (twice!). One of the wing support struts is just visible in the cutout so that may be contibuting to the cutout looking too thick?

A few more renders are planned (including a proper sky!).

Here is a PDF file of the mid-wing done by Achim Engels. Just for reference, resolution is not the best.

womenfly2: Thank you for the reference material. I overlaid that .pdf over the models mesh and there is some inaccuracy but not enough,I feel, to rework and retexture that area of the model. The problem started right from the beginning due to initially using low quality plans that was to waste so much time over the course of making this Fokker. For my next WW1 aircraft I have (hopefully) obtained better quality plans.

Anyway, this is the 2nd full render of my Fokker Dr.1 213/17 model.

The sky backdrop was composited in as postwork, helped along by an alpha image from Maxwell Render 1.7.

Thank you for taking a look.

womenfly2: Thank you. More full renders of the 'Remember Be' scheme will follow.

In the meantime, I've more or less decided to develop and display a revised colour scheme Fokker as a scale model and place it on a small diorama - similar to this rough preview.

A bit more grime is to added and I'm going to try converting those grime layers to reflection maps for use with Maxwell Materials. The reflections are too uniform at present across the Fokkers' 'varnished' surfaces.
