some other "modern pulp" covers
the artist of this series of comics did some homework regards aircraft and then decided to let loose with the markings, mixing and matching as he wanted!

That explains why I never saw a jacket on the book as my father had the original Putnam edition though I never remember seeing the dust cover or slipcase ... unfortunate. I remember seeng the volume forever ... when a child I could not believe the size of the book!
Merci Dan

Glad to hear you like this one, Kilian.
Here's some more art.
The Blue Max by Jack Hunter.
And another "etching" type cover

Hi Dan,
Is that Jack Hunter's cover? I read that he did the cover art for the first edition.

More Maximum Blue...
Hi All,
I love Jack Hunter's artwork for his own first novel. According to some sources, this was almost his first attempt at painting such an illustration as well. By choosing that particular perspective on Stachel's black Fokker D.VII, he neatly avoided the problem of how to show (or not show) the obscene epithet Stachel had painted on the top wing in large white letters (granted, IIRC, Stachel soon had the two words overpainted after two RAF prisoners laughed at it, calling him the "men's room ace").
For this later paperback edition, the unknown cover artist daringly hinted at the epithet painted on Stachel's top wing, on the D.VII at extreme left - a nice touch:

Bonjour mes amis
Greg ... I never noticed that detail before ... surprising ... will have to pull the copy I have out of storage ...
Jos ... Signed With Their Honor by Meijering is an interesting book ... most exciting jacket for the edition you have depicting the fabled encounter between Guynemer and Udet ... the edition I have has a much less inspiring cover of essentially no relevance to the subject of chivalry in the air.
Salut!
Kirk
