Bonjour mes amis
The greatest of the Great War aviation novels remains
Winged Victory, by Victor M. Yeates who flew in combat with 46 Squadron and 80 Squadron, a remarkable book by any standard.
Among the numerous editions, this of 1961, published by Johnathan Cape with a cover design by (which may not mean that the art was by the same) R.G. Williamson -
Gordon F. Atkin wrote an excellent biography of the man which was published in 2004 by Springwater Books with cover artwork by Les Carter described as "depicting
Victor Yeates flying Sopwith Camel D6585 in May 1918".
Yeates is always worthy of consideration and I will open Winged Victory again now ...
Salut!
Kirk
