And the Arkadiusz Wróbel that I promised a while back
I have some more bird of prey imagery for Greg later (if you want more).

Hi Dan,
Sure I want more!! Keep 'em coming.
By the way, the cover of "Richthofen's Eleven" (a title which was seemingly intended as a quickie way to capitalize on "Ocean's Eleven"?) is supposed to depict Lothar von R's Fokker D.VII. As far as I know, the color scheme is completely imaginary.

The next covers -surely- will be known to Greg and Norman.
The covers are from Iain Wyllie.

Aw shucks, Jos .
Thanks for posting those. Iain Wyllie is now retired, but he was a real pleasure to work with. An absolutely marvelous artist with a great flair, yet always maintained a high degree of accuracy. A real gentleman.
Greg

Thanks, Jos, for the Osprey covers.
I promised Greg a couple more birds of prey. First is a nice squadron history.
cover by Urband - book by Percival Hart - History of the 135th Aero Squadron
The next one isn't a book, but it's pretty neat. Graduation program from the US School of Military Aeronautics. I have a couple of these, and they're all a little different. The cover on this one was done by Dwight M. Cathcart, who is listed as one of the graduates

Oh - yes. Ian Wyllie`s pictures a very, very well done. Great.
For me they have everything. Showing the plane and giving the impression of speed and the tension of a dog fight. And they are even based on a certain event.
There is only one of the series, the Austro-Hungarian Aces, which apparently shows a “wrong” front cover. The event it should depict is an indecisive dogfight between a Camel and Frank Linke-Crawford. Unfortunately it seems not to show Linke-Crawford’s plane…
But anyway, the series is great. I hope Osprey will come out with new titles. The German Schlastas would be a interesting topic… (I know, that you can come up with proposals on the osprey website)

Hello Thomas,
Do you mean this cover by Keith Woodcock?
I agree, it's not Linke's plane, but maybe he flew Oberleutnant Jansky's Phönix D1 this very day. The description of the frontcover reads: In July 1918 Frank Linke-Crawford flying a Phönix D.1 of Flik 60j fought an inconclusive battle with a Sopwith Camel on the southern edge of the Dolomite range over Feltre. Both aircraft sustained considerable damage, but neither was shot down
On page 62 Linke is to be seen next to Jansky's plane. So he could have been flying the plane of Oberleutnant Jansky.
Just my thoughts....
Greetings,
Jos
