Not long ago I sent Mike O'Neal a list of artists who worked in the WWI aviation field. It was quite lengthy, but I know far from complete. Perhaps if he reads this he might consider sharing it with everyone by posting it in sections on thos Thread. Best regards, agblume

My Gallery
Ah yes- a bunch of Harleyford jackets, done by J. D. Carrick. Here's another one of his, from a 1963 Hobby Helpers pub.

Dang, I didn't mention the artists who did those covers --

Robert has properly credited J. D. Carrick who illustrated the Harleyford books back in the early '60s.

Mick was illustrated by Peter Endsleigh Castle.

Sopwith Scout 7309 by Pino Dell'Orco.

Over The Battlefronts by Clayton Knight, whose WWI flying experiences are also part of the book.

The Red Baron's Last Flight by Barry Weekly, who's also done the cover art for several other Grub St. titles.

Revival

Hi,

It's time we reactivated this thread! Here's the "Air Combat Classics" version (1971) of Harold Hartney's Up and 'At Em By August Schug. This artist did some nice calendar art for the old Cross & Cockade back in the '70's.

Various versions of Ernst Udet's most famous aircraft; I now think that the real thing didn't look like any of these (IMHO), but I still love the paintings. I am sure that this airplane shot down more Allied aircraft on book covers, paintings and model boxtop art than it ever did in real life, for the actual plane didn't last that long! The artists are, top to bottom, Ed Valigursky, Charles Knotek and Gene Thomas.

One more

This one is by Jo Kotula, who did Aurora model box tops and hosts of flying model magazine covers in the '50s and '60s.
