Hi Germanophile-1;

Thanks for posting that - don't know why I didn't think of it. Yes, Jim's book is a visual treasuare, and contains some fascinating insights and information as well. In fact, here's the back cover so viewers can see a bit more of Jim's profile work:

Now, for a complete contrast, here's a W.E. Johns book with artwork by Stanley Orton Bradshaw:

And, in the 'lazy research' category, here's a cover for Arch Whitehouse's "The Zeppelin Killers" I'd not seen before. It looks like the unknown artist copied a publicity shot of actor Don Stroud from Von Richthofen and Brown, and swiped a bit of the Hindenburg explosion and added a few biplanes. Geeze!:

Hi,

Here is a French offering; it's a magazine sort of like Osprey's "duel" series of books, in which two opposing aircraft are described along with their pilots. Nice stuff on the Fokker Eindecker and Nieuport 11.

OK, it's official. I'm adicted to finding new pulp magazine covers. Here's "Sky Fighters" from 1937.

Hopefully I haven't posted this previously. "Daredevil Aces", September 1933, featuring LVG C.V's and what I think is a Halberstadt and Nieuport:

This is a recently-published compilation of air war pulp stories by Lester Dent, with cover by Rudolph Belarski. I like the artist's treatment of the metaphor of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse for the flight of SE5a's - this is the kind of thing Belarski did so well:

How about one of the covers of Captain Eddie's book?

Thanks for that, balloonbuster. There are almost as many Flying Circus covers as there are Red Baron covers.

Here's a couple more covers:

I posted the History of the 91st Aero recently. Here's the very similar illustration by Terry Badham on the cover of a book of his artwork:

This one is Steven C. Garst:

Greg, I found several more MAN covers. More Jo Kotula is on the way.

Two days, no covers. Must post more.

For Greg, here's some MAN covers by Jo Kotula - March and April 1965

I could let this thread go, but I'm still having fun.

Here's some more line art, probably done by Robert Casari himself. There are seven books of his on U.S. Military Aircraft. Here are the three on the World War I Production Program.

With permission from Greg Van Wyngarden, editor, I would like to post a couple "Over the Front" magazine covers I recently acquired. I believe this pic appeared at some time in the Aerodrome gallery. I hope it is all right , if not moderator please take down the image and I will post some other stuff.

Presented here is this evocative painting of Tom Leamon covering the feat of Obltn Richard Falke and pilot Ltn Paul Schultheiss who on 13 Nov 1916 took off in their Rumpler CI from Beersheba in Palestine, and flew 5 hours and a half non stop to Cairo, dropped bombs and took photos of the Pyramids. Volume 13, Number 1 Spring 1998
