looking for magazine to go with painitng
Hi- this is wonderful site - my father was a member of Cross and Cockade so I grew up with a lot of exposure t oWorld War 1 aviation. While I do not have a lto of time to keep up with it. it still fascinates me.
I collect American Illustration art (own a Blakeslee Dare devil Aces cover from that later period in which he was melding WW1 and 1930's ariplanes)
I toda picked up an interior painting by FC Yohn from proabbly a magazine- title on the Back Airshipman it shows a Sopwith (I think) dueling with a Zep. no date - there is a caption on it - I have atatched a scan. This looks like his work from the late teens - 1920's or maybe earl y30's- He died i n1933
When I get art I like to read the article or story it is associated with. it is often harder to ID the art and find the story than it is to get the art.
I think it might be from a Thomson Burtis serial in American Boy as Yoh ndid some work for them but the art is violent people shooting out of the gondola at the plane so I am not sure if that firs or not (though lord knows the Carl H Claudy SCi-fi books for boys I read secondhand as a child were pretty grisly at times!)
Thanks a lot George hagenauer - yellowkd@terracom.net

An excellent reprint of an old book (1943) with nice cover design by Federica Montaruli.

Yavor

Well, I'm starting to run out of art. I may find some more, and I still have a few that I haven't gotten pictures of yet. And there's more coming in all the time.
Here's a common book that hasn't been posted as far as I can tell. It's just a little woodcut, but it keeps the thread going until I get a few more pics.

Mates,
Somehow I have not been keeping up with the 'Jones' I.e. Dan - so to get me back into the game I just picked up two new books and thought that their front covers deserved to be posted for all you folks to see.

Hi All,
Gotta keep this thread going, but with some distinctly less-scholarly works compared to those posted by Yavor!
Return with me now, to those thrilling days of yesteryear....amazing the pulps that keep turning up on ebay. This cover is by the famous Rudolph Belarski, for "War Birds", April 1934:
A sort-of Lafayette Escadrille cover, from "War Stories" from 1928:
A very aggressive RE8 crew, "War Stories" of June 1930:

Even more unlikely scenarios
These are, after all, pulp fiction - in every sense of the words. From the January 1929 issue of "Fawcett's Battle Stories":
From February 1929: Now, where did that US pilot get his nice parachute? Probably the same place as his star-insignia aeroplane - from the Department of Shabby research! One red German airplane scratched, though:
Even German seaplanes were red! "Battle Stories", October 1930:
This desperate British aviator looks a bit out-gunned. All he's got is a wrench.
This fighter from "Air Stories" of October 1928 looks a bit like a well-armed Curtiss Jenny.
