A Brace Of Hardy

Bonjour mes amis

Wilf Hardy may well have been the most prolific aviation artist ever and was particularly renown for illustrations done for the covers of Air Enthusiast.

Some of the always exciting work produced by Hardy has been posted here before, but, here is a brace with a Great War theme which have not.

A detail from Look And Learn, No. 484, 24th April, 1971: Yankee Super Ace
This illustration stimulates the mind ... is Berthold flying for the Freikorps and attracting attention from elements of the 94th Aero Squadron based at Coblenz including a visiting Rickenbacker? ... hhmm ... should not that SPAD XIII flown by Outcault be red and white? Well, it must be said that it is not necessary to be accurate to excite ... right Greg? ... I was certainly thrilled to receive the issue!

Royal Air Force Yearbook 1993.
To commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the founding of The Royal Air Force: A lovely juxtaposition of SE5a and ... some other flying machines ...

Salut!
Kirk

A fine drawing of Ansaldo biplanes on a 1970 book cover.

SOPWITH CAMEL AT THE MATRIX, FILLMORE St., SAN FRANCISCO

I didn't know quite where to post this and it may be the only type Rock Concert Poster of it's kind:

I have tried unsucessfully to run an add for this in the CLASSIFIEDS.
I will put it here and try again later. I am aware that this is not the place for an add, but I thought that it is worth sharing here.

"Tour/Show:Neon Rose #5
Artist:Victor Moscoso
Date:Feb 6, 1967
Venue:Matrix (San Francisco, CA)
Size:14" x 20"
Value: $650 and up

This Poster is from my personal collection that I started during 1969 while living near Portland, Oregon. I soon moved to Northern California where my neighbor was a Printer in Sausalito, north of the Golden Gate Bridge. I bought several Bill Graham Production Posters from him, I also picked up poters and hand-bills where ever I found them.

This poster obviously appealed to me for the performing Artist and the Artwork. The poster Artist is Victor Moscoso and he is famous for his many works, which I have a fair number of.
I believe that this is a "First Printing", which are most valuable.

This is my one and only SOPWITH CAMEL Poster.
I thought that it needs to be matted and framed under glass and hung up at a good home. I have had my posters stored for over 35 years and have decided to thin the herd. I thought that one of you Members might have a better way to enjoy this than me storing it.

I am asking $500.00 USD.
All serious offers considered as are different forms of payment. S&H to be determined by actual Postage, Insurance, etc.
I can provide a better image with a little help."

Thanks for looking, Jay aka FOKKERJ

P.S. I am not responsible for "Flash Backs" induced from prolonged staring at the above image!

One more odd detour from the usual........
Once upon a time there was great Welsh band called Man. One of their guys, Deke Leonard, did a solo album in 1973, posing with the Shuttleworth Bristol for the cover when it was still in all-aluminum dope.

Thanks for posting that, Romani!

Now, for something completely different. A contemporary October 1918 cover to "Literary Digest", with a painting entitled "Ending the Raider's Career". The German seaplane seems to be partially based on the photo of the well-known Gotha that was shot down by Guynemer and Chainat, and exhibited in Nancy.

Here's another imaginative cover to an August 1918 copy of "Literary Digest", showing "American Cavalry of the Air" strafing German trenches. Amercian illustrators of the day loved the American star insignia, though it was not used operationally in Europe.

Good stuff, all. I've been busy with life events and not posting much. I have some more covers too, and will hopefully get to them soon.

Keep up the postings.

Thank you for the Literary Digest, Gregvan!
Obviously the artist was not too much concerned with mechanics of aeroplane ditching or particular construction details but it looks nice on the magazine cover.
Regards,
Yavor
