Tom - you may be right about the upper wing. That's one of the "lines" that I mentioned that I wanted to adjust. What is throwing it off is the fact that there is some down angle on the port aileron to give that wing lift. I may back off on the down angle slightly and see what that does.

As for the light on the bottom of the wing, there is less there than you would think (trust me, I took a model outside and had a look for myself). Its a perfect raking light that gives the underside a little warmth without really lighting it up. Also, the shadows of the struts didn't show up quite as well on this scan as they actually appear. They'll be darker on the final version which will give you a better sense of light.

Okay, so after numerous comments along the lines of "great drawing, but _____ doesn't quite look right", I finally said to myself "Okay self, maybe i do need to take another look at this thing".

So I did...and in my never ending pursuit of the perfect Albatros rendering, I ended up re-working the perspective drawing and pencil study.

Changes:
1. I adjusted the LE of the horz. stabilizer and took a little deflection off the elevator.
2. I adjusted the vertical stabilizer slightly
3. I streamlined the nose.
4. I corrected the shape of the wingtip. The chord of the upper wing widens near the tips, and as Tom pointed out, I didn't emphasize that enough in the original drawing. I also lessened the deflection on the aileron.

New version

And the old one to compare:

Russ,

I would say your little changes have made a big difference. My very minor grip about the horozontal stab is fixed. It seems so much better now. Do you now go for a whole new color study or do you have enough info from the old one to move forward without it?

Phil

Thanks Phil. No need to do another color study at this point. The one I did allowed me to work out my overall color scheme and value placement. Since I really only changed a few lines on the airplane, I'll go on to the big version now.

And I am the lucky chap who got the pencil study!

I was able to swoop in and purchase the revised pencil study. I can't wait to see the actual piece as opposed to a photo of it, a nice spot is already reserved for it on my wall. Although leaving it at the framers for a couple weeks will be depressing.
