The other Red Baron...

Hi there,
I thought I might share with you a recent painting I completed to illustrate a friend's article. It depicts Captain Les Holden's SE5A of No.6 (Training) Squadron, AFC, in a training exercise over the Gloucestershire countryside in 1918. Holden had his aircraft painted all-red for ease of identification. From the limited research material available, the student Camel bore no insignias other than an aircraft number at the rear of the fueslage, in a white rectangle. Other training instructors. flew aircraft with a black and white chequerboard scheme.

Cheers,

Steve
