Bayetto's Morane-Saulnier N

Hi all

Here's my latest WW1 composition. It depicts Sgt. Bayetto's combat with Eindeckers on the 2nd of March, 1916. He attacked a group of 5 and claimed one shot down in flames near Valenciennes.

Of course, should I have made any mistakes, please point them out.

That's quite superb, Jerry!

You've managed to convey a real sense of speed and movement there. The lighting gives it an almost photographic realism too.

I wouldn't have pointed this out, but since you ask, and because you obviously want to portray Bayetto's action as accurately as possible, I think I'm right in saying that at the time (March 1916), the Morane would not have had the red paint applied.

The RFC order to paint the front end of all Morane's red, came in July, during the battle of the Somme to avoid confusion with the Eindekker's, the Pfalz in particular.

Most likely, The front end would've had the standard black factory finish.

That doesn't detract in the slightest though...Very well done!

All the best.

Ah, the devil is in the details! I've raised this point in my previous Morane thread, so I just wanted to tally the date for when the cowls would've been red or black. Looks like I may have to go back to the drawing board...

Here's an updated version with the correct colours and a few other minor changes.

Wonderful picture, I like it very much.

And it becomes clear, why they changed it to red later. The plane looks really similar to the cursed Fokkers....
