Les <<As>> français de 1918

Bonjour Thierry!

I recently purchased avions 166 essentially because of the beautiful artwork depicting aircraft of French aces of 1918. Quite a remarkable effort Thierry ... those illustrations are superb! I look forward to seeing more Great War types depicted by you in the future.

Bonne année
Kirk

Hi, It looks swell in red.

I've never seen this red spad before. What is story behind this scheme?

Is this a spad 13? I think you are missing a panel on the fuse..on port side I think... its just aft of the cockpit cut. Also the shell ejector slot dealy and the mesh screen covering the side vent..idk..maybe it was missing. The frame/metal behind the vent almost looks real.....

Cool beans!

Bonjour Tim!

The aircraft was flown by Georges Madon of Spa 38. A photograph which appears in avions 166 to accompany the profile would indicate essential accuracy of the rendition. The same photograph and a profile of the aircraft may be found in SPAD XII/XIII Aces of World War 1, Osprey Aircraft Of The Aces 47 ... the book by Jon Guttman, the profile by Harry Dempsey.

Salut!
Kirk

Madon's Red Spad XIII...

Thierry,

Thanks for sharing the beautiful artwork. Very nicely done. What is the structure between the landing gear legs? I've not seen that before.

Spa 38 was photo recon unit yes? I sort of like the black thorn branch on their other planes.
