Scratched Print - any help to repair?

Here's a little of my sad tale of woe with Jim Dietz great study "The Last Word", which I'm sure most of you are familiar with. One of the finest Richtofen studies ever done. I was one of the first in line to get this print and kep it in the drawer for a year or so thinking how to display it well.

First I sent it to Jim, who did a wonderful remarque on it for me with three Fokker Dr-1 in a lineup and some hangers or tents in the background. Sort of like the morning ine up before flight. I covers about 10" just under the printed image.

I selected appropraite mats and a great frame ( oversize) and had thee shadowboxes in the matt bottom; one with a repro Pour le' Merite and neck ribbon in the center, a print of Mvr in his furs on the left, and an authentic piolts badge on the right. Was really spectacular.

Well ..... in the course of moving the glass broke, and the frame was a bit dented ( we call that distressing :-) ) What really distressed me ws about a 3/4" scratch on the print. The morning sky is a pale red/yellow and its really noticable.

To make a long story short. Is there any way to salvage this?

Any attempt I would make would only make it worse, I think.
