Hi everyone!
I have a white cardboard box, about 11x14 inches, that contains three folded up printed posters/paintings. The box has on the front a modern photo done in sepia tone of a young man bidding his girlfriend goodbye as his parents look lovingly on. He is about to board a train and the caption under the photo says:
"In 1917, thousands of young Americans left the farm to go off to Europe. Ahead of them lay the great wines and cheese of France."
One you open the box, there is a color print of the rear view of a SPAD shooting at a German balloon. Under that is the caption:
"And an occasional German sausage."
Each folded up painting has a theme: one is "Brits" showing
Lanoe Hawker, "Yanks" showing
Elliot White Springs,a nd another "Yanks" featuring
Frank Luke.
I'll post some pictures of this soon.
Does anyone know what the heck these are for? Or can add anything else about this? Is it a series? Were there more posters? ANY help would be appreciated!
Thanks!
"Fly laughing!"
