James Coen

I received my copy of 'Night Raiders of the Air' by AR Kingsford this morning, and the illustrations are mostly paintings signed by someone called James Coen - they're very nice pieces of art, particularly one looking down on a FE2 from above amid searchlights and anti aircraft fire, with two biplanes in the distance, with the caption 'I TRIED A DODGE, AND LET GO THE PARACHUTE FLARE'. Has anyone heard of James Coen before, and is it possible to see or even buy his artwork?

It's definitely Coen. I've contacted the publishers but no reply as of yet, I don't believe it's been published for a number of years so would be surprised if I hear anything useful. I'll try and get a photo of some of his work in the book

LC,

The book was originally published about 1930, so it's likely that even if he were a young artist in 1930, Mr. Coen would be well into his 80s or older by now. A quick search of the ether revealed no further detail.

I've heard back from the publisher and they can't help either. Funny how he made quite a number of illustrations for the book yet is unheard of, despite me asking on many other forums
