A Duel Begins

Hey, guys. It's been a while since i last posted anything on here. Here's a piece i just finished today for an aviation art show im preparing for.

It's features the Red Baron in his Albatros D.V coming across a Niuport 17 and the duel begins by a quick pass and then turning in to one another to get the angle.

It's great. It looks as if the battle is over though. There's a little black streak that's coming out of the Nieuport which I take as smoke and the Nieuport is going down as Manfred passes by and watches his opponent fall. Great picture.

Abendmaschine

Hello David,

Did you remember the elegant "Wash-out" on the ailerons?

All kidding aside, it looks great!

You probably even have correctly off set the radiator for this machine.
I would have to look, but believe that this is correct.

Very dramatic and striking.
Keep up the good work.

HAPPY TRAILS, FOKKERJ

P.S. Yep, you did your home work.... I had to go take a look see:

"Abendmaschine" of Manfred von Richthofen

Hi Dave,

Great composition, and very dramatic!

One minor nit-pick. If MvR were lucky enough to encounter a Nieuport 17 at this late date, it would certainly have borne British roundels, not French cocardes. Richthofen did almost all of his scoring opposite the RFC/RAF, and all of his 80 confirmed victories were British.

No criticism of your artistic skills is intended - great stuff!

Greg
