I was on the Houston Library site and saw this book. Needless to say the cover is a study in being wrong...

The book was discussed by Weldboy in December; am short on time to investigate further but IIRC the consensus was "don't bother."

oops.

I didn't think that there was such a thing as "civilized warfare."

D'y'think someone was just shuffling throught the pictures of that era and just picked one to slap on the cover?

My bad.

But thanks for the advice. I'll cancel my hold request.

Our city library purchased the book. Amongst the errors, a full page photo of Hermann Göring is captioned as being Manfred von Richthofen!!!! Grrrr....

The author is astute at how to sell a book, that explains the cover B)

Actually, I have glanced through this and read bits. There is a sort of correlation. She contends (and rightly so) that Albert Ball and Mick Mannock were inspirations to Americans who rallied to the cause and went as pilots.

BYW, Ginger, love your avatar of Mick. I'm going to visit his grave in 3 weeks.

Cheers ya'll,
Scarlett

Oh, I have no problem with Captain Ball appearing on the cover; it's actually my second favorite of him.

The first is of him standing with a propeller leaning against him and held by his left arm and a propeller harm tucked under his right arm and a huge grin on his face.

He's one lad I would have loved to have chatted with....

That's interesting, if true. I can understand that Ball may have received some publicity in the US but would be surprised if Mannock received much attention Over Here. Evidently he wasn't well known in the UK during his lifetime.
