Hoist a glass of Champagne (vintage 1903) and crank up the Blue Max soundtrack to honor one heck of a composer who died in his sleep in California, after a long battle with cancer. No matter how many times I listen to the CD, the music is stirring!

He also did the soundtrack to Patton and IIRC half the TV shows in syndication. Melissa (LFA) mentioned quite a few of his works over in Off Topic, but I will always remember him for both versions of the theme to the TV show the Man from Uncle.

I guess that kinda dates me.

PS: I've sworn off champagne, as much as I truly adore Mumm's Cordon Rouge NV, but I have a rare bottle of Bushmills Single Malt, 21 year old Irish whiskey that I have been saving for a special occasion. Perhaps this will qualify.
