I have a spare copy of Aviation Engines by Victor Page. Copyright 1917. Close to 600 pages. Really poor binding. Front and rear covers hanging on by a thread. All pages are intact and are not loose. Those who know this book can attest to the wealth of period info within. Great drawings, crosssections and photos of all the popular powerplants of the time. And some obscure ones too. Operating principles, engine parts and functions, ignition, lubrication, design, construction, repair. It's all there. Is your Hisso or Gnome running a bit rough? There's even a trouble shooting section. Free to the first one who sends me a PM. Hey, I'll even throw in the shipping in the US.
Salute,
Steve

Where can the rest of us find a copy of that book? I'd love to have one. An online search turned up nothing however.

I too found this book along with another version of it in an antique book store. Yes, it IS a wealth of WWI engine information!
Best Regards, Gary

Every once in a while one turns up on Ebay. Also a two volume set to look out for is Modern (sic) Aviation Engines By V.W. Page Copyright 1929. It's the same layout and covers some of the early engines but goes clear up to 1929 technology. Over 1900 pages between both volumes.
Salute, and good hunting!
Steve

Find a copy
Go to addall.com or abebooks.com and enter Page for the Author, and Engines for the title. There are any number of copies to be found.
Frank.
