Book by SHAA

This is for all you guys interested in French Aviation during WWI.

SHAA has published a new book, 607 pages, titles "Les escadrilles de l'aéronautique militaire française (Symbolic et histoire) 1912 - 1920"

This book cover all the escadrilles from 1 through 590, and then some. each escadrille has the following matrial:

1. Date created and dates of changes in designations, i.e N to Spa.
2. A color reproduction of the unit insignia.
3. A list of airfields occupied.
4. List of Commanding officers and date of assuming command.
5. A list of armées attached to as well as other organizations, GB, GC, etc.
6. Types of aircraft asigned to the unit.
7. Some serial numbers of aircraft assigned, a few but still useful.
8. NOtes nimber of enemy aircraft credited to teh unit.
9. List os citations received by the unit.
10. Notes on notable personnel.
11. List of combat casualties.

It also has mabyy, many photos of aircrfat and personnel, and other very interesting features.

I don't know the cost, but believe me it is well worth whatever it is selling for.

Hmm, doesn't "hit" when searching any of the usual sites. Ian Allan (Midland Counties) is normally very good for French Language books in the UK, but zilch.

Anyone know where to get this?

Mike,

I found a description of it at http://www.aerostories.org/~aerobibl...id_article=693

Price is 77 Euros. I think you can order from that website; there may be a way to order it from SHAA directly. But I buy many French publications from La Maison du Livre Aviation, whose website is at
http://www.livre-aviation.com/

I expect that I will order it tonight.

Frank.

Does the book have English text?

That's usually the drawback. Very few good books exist on the Aéronautique Militaire in English.

No, the book is in French, but very easy to follow.
