What a cracking good read. Can't imagine some of those letters home did Mrs. Gould Lee's blood pressure any good!

Toppers,
that very subject gets a good mention, not surprisingly one totally opposite to the official 'they'll all bale out in a stiff fight' bullshit.
Lee and his Squadron mates take on it was that they would be even more aggressive in attack if they knew there was a fighting chance of surviving a break up or a flamer .

Parachutes.

Topgun56:
Parachute became government furnished equipment from January 1918. first the Jasta aircraft later to C Class aircraft and class bombers. The parachute was a static-line design by by Uffz.Heinecke, manufactured by Schroeder und Company, G.m.b.H. Berlin.
